My cousin's fire company's block party is this weekend. For those of you who just said "What the hell is a block party?", I'll clue you in. Its kind of a festival, usually held in the street, as a fundraiser for a non-profit organization(such as a volunteer fire company or church). They have homemade ethnic food like pierogies(potato pockets), bleenies(potato pancakes), and halupki(stuffed cabbage). In Schuylkill County, no fire company block party is complete without a big pot of homemade bean soup hangin' over an open fire. There's also games and usually a band(this Saturday its Til December(formerly Backstreet Law)). And, of course, there's the hometown favorite, Yuengling. Fortunately, the heat is supposed to break before Saturday. I know, your jealous. Well, you should be.
