Take care bud. The house is big and empty right now, but that's another matter.

I guess I haven't updated in some time so, here goes. College life is good. Work is actually good also, takes my mind away from class and vice versa. The girls are cute but too bloody young. No hockey, Jabberowk sad. I like my new apartment, not quite a swinging batchelor pad but that wouldn't really fit my idiom anyway. That's all.
The first Ginger Snaps is a clever semi-horror story about the transformation of two sisters. Think American Werewolf in London meets Heathers. The second is a continuation, and the third is a prequel (of sorts). They've developed a bit of a cult following, and with good reason. Check them out (in order, of course) if you get a chance.

Though I constantly profess my devotion to The History Channel, I have to admit that I am getting into "We Are The 80's" on VH1Classic. In the past day or so, I've seen videos from Peter Murphy, The Wonder Stuff, Iggy Pop, Red Ryder and, get this, The Bolshoi (remember them?!?). Ah youth, wasted on... Read More
If you mean the Russian, it was allready in that form... Otherwise, it's the Italian. I didn't use anything else to translate that, that was 'as is' ...though sometimes I run into shoddy translators... <---
The house is a two story townhouse in Wilmington, DE. It's an end unit, with a garage, finished basement, three bedrooms, huge kitchen, one and a half baths, and two small decks off the back. It's dreamy.
Finals are over. I have to beg and plead w/a professor to try to get into a history class for next semester. Probably won't have any luck but, what can you do. So I watched "Eternal Sunshine" a few weeks ago. It was interesting. Not bad. Most critics loved it, and rightfully so. My biggest problem was that it was formulaic. What I mean by... Read More
I still haven't had the good fortune to see Ralph Stanley in person. I suppose I don't have much longer if I want to, unfortunately. Oh! to have been all grown up thirty years ago! I hear he doesn't play banjo anymore, which is understandable considering he's about 100, but he still hits those outrageous tenors in his old-man voice. I think he always had an old man voice.
Bill Monroe is certainly the guy as far as bluegrass goes, but, for me, I can't get enough of the Country Gentlemen. I wouldn't say they were pioneers, neccessarily, like Stanley and Monroe, and they aren't always instrumentally tight, but their harmonies are just fuckin' rock solid. They always chose really cool and interesting songs, too, not all heartache and misery (although there is a considerable amount of that as well).
I work in a historic house museum that's about 170 years old. We've got a large collection of historic artifacts, furniture, decorative arts, and also some early 20th century American paintings. It's a cool job!
I love that depressing country stuff, but I gotta get some new music to listen to!
Not much too add. Well, that's not true, someone stole my cellphone a couple of weeks ago, I finished my big paper on Pushkin's Onegin, and school is just about done for the semester. Playing lax has been fun. Appears that I will be admitted to grad school. Yipee. I won't even begin to mention the debacle that was Fountain Day here at SUNY.... Read More
Now for part II of my treatise. In this section I will discuss what I believe are the trenchant reasons for people who wish to become celebrities.
In my jaded worldview, people have the desire to become famous (i.e. celebrity) out of both narcissism and insecurity.
I postulate that it is narcissism in that they have a supreme sense of self-love and and unbinding belief... Read More
I wonder whether we know ANYTHING about celebrities or are they always in role. I think the majority ended up in a role in society that they could never comprehend until they experienced it and then it just rolls out of control. Brittany Spears it seems for example is having a nervous breakdown and it is all covered in the paper. When average people act the way celebrities do , no one ever hears about it. I wonder if the media is the one that creates the environment , and if half these folks dont know how to get out of what they find themselves in the middle of. It seems like a classic tragedy, wanting something so bad and then when you get it realizing that what you wanted is the worst thing you could have. Then what do you do the lion is already out of the cage?
Okay, I know that I was gonna' do Part 2 on my thesis, but I am pretty hammered and I have other things in mind. I went to a bar tonight. Jillians to be exact. I went to meet friends. There was a very attractive young lady there that I tried to get to know, and it went well. During the night while the young... Read More
Yeah I watched the whole game, and almost cried. Bah. Me, a sharp female? Why thank you!
To be totally honest, if Im in a bar getting sloshed, I cant have a really good converstaion. But, in any other time, I adore great conversation, healthy debates, and someone who can talk about almost anything. Im not sure whats up with the girls in NY, but I grew up in Colorado, and when I moved here to California, I found most of the girls Ive met arent interseted in anything even slightly intellectual. I think drunk girls just like to flirt, but might be totally different in a different setting.
