dammit.
I spent all day fighting with the VDub dealership. I leased a Passat 1.8T manual from them about 2.5 years ago. It has 27,800 miles on it, and the clutch already burnt out.
Now, I am not saying that I don't "punch" it from time to time, it's just that a clutch shouldn't wear down under 30K!!!
Hell, not even after 50K!
So, they were going to charge my $1700 to fix it. That is CRAZY. I said what would happen if I told them to pack it up and I would be on my merry way...
They were still going to charge me $650 for the tear down and diagnostics. argh.
After calling around to a few different places, I found a guy that would do it all for $650. That would net me a savings of about $300. So, I called back the dealership, told them to pack it up, and I'd have it towed to this place. They then said "hold on"...
They told me that they could do the entire job for $1300, and have it done today. yeesh. Ok.
Now, I called back the other mechanic and told him that the dealership was going to do the job for $1300. He said that he could do the whole thing for $450. ugh.
Again, another call to the dealership. I told them to pack it up (again), and that I'd pay the $650, and take it to the other place. I was then transferred to the Service Manager and dude tells me that they could do the entire thing, have it done today, and warranty the work for 2 yrs or 20K for $950. done.
what a hassle.
