It's been a rough week. I had to attend the funeral of my aunt Denise the other day. It was tough, because for the first time it seemed like my generation of the family really had to be there for our parents generation. In the past year 2 of my uncles died as well, within 2 days of each other. It has kind of hit the older generation hard to see so many of the people they have always had around for so long, and that are their age, die so suddenly.
We pull through though, we always do. My family focuses more or celebrating the life, rather than mourning the death of our lost loved ones. There are usually a lot of laughs, and picture sharing going on all around at the wake or funeral, and it keeps things positive. I love my family, I really do and no matter how tough my childhood was at times (we were dirt poor, and often went without), I always had my family there to support me and my brother. I am fortunate to be part of the Morrissette clan, I really am.
The funeral also forced me to miss a day of work, and severely upset my sleep schedule for a day or two after, so I'm still a bit groggy. I'll be good by the weekend though.
How are you all doing? How does your family or friends handle the wake/funeral/grieving process? I've gotten some odd reactions in the past because of how light hearted our funerals are, so I've often wondered how common that sort of thing is.

Close, but no dice.
Condolences, hon. 2008 really isn't beginning so great. I think it's left overs from 2007 coming to smack us in the ass and remind of us our place.
Mental venting helps sometimes, others not really. I guess it really depends. I teared up a little looking at photos and a video but then writing that out made me feel better and I was able to fall asleep right after I posted it. Go figure.
I'm not really sure how my family handles the grieving process since I've never been around anyone in my family when someone has passed away. I tend to stay clear of funerals if at all possible. I'm too empathic, I can't handle so many different emotions in one room.
