"If you could be either God's worst enemy or nothing, which would you choose?" - Chuck Palahniuk
Good question, Chuck. Good question.
Today I was thinking about God actually. What reason is there for God to exist? And by reason I mean logic. I have not discovered a real reason for God to exist. I do see many reasons why we would want God to exist but that's not the same thing. I suppose some might say that with our current understanding of the universe, the reason is beyond us. This is so close to the truth for me.
The name we give to that which we cannot understand - death for example - is God. Those who cannot be satisfied with the simplicity of "not knowing" call the unknown God.
Don't know why we're here? Because God wills it so.
Not sure why some people die and others live? It's God's will.
How could something as complex and perfect as a tree exist? God made it.
In each of these common "rationale" [that I've heard] for the existence of God, the more simple explanaton is just not knowing the answer. Is not knowing so mortifying? It doesn't mean you can't try to find out. If anything it is the exhilarating catalyst for life-long adventures and expeditions. The impetus for living a life of curiosity, wonder, and experiment. Your life may be spent as a rocket scientist or a tattoo-artist, it makes no difference, so long as you apply yourself to your own existence.
That's what I was thinking today. Then I had a quarter pounder, and the Coke it came with was so good. Why was it so good?
Must be God's will.
