I was thinking about many stories of when I helped people and when people helped me, but I guess I'm gonna tell you this particular one, cause withing half an hour two absolute strangers have pretty much saved my life.
It's been a year of 2011, I graduated high school and came to Saint Petersburg with my mom to apply to several universities and pass some entrace exams. A few of my friends already lived there, they invited me over to their place wich was situated on the Vasileostrovsky Island (a place is pretty much cut off from the rest of the city by Neva river when the drawbridges are up in summer). We got drunk, then smoked some weed and just got carried away. By the time I started remembering myself again, it was 4 am in the morning (considering I was supposed to be home by 10 pm) and I didn't have a cell phone to tell my mom I'm ok. The only best idea that occured to me was to walk to the hotel we were renting a room in. I walked through the empty streets, saw some drunkards, tramps, even rats! I was scared to death, but public transport was not running yet and bridges were about to come down again. I crossed the bridge and was walking along the Neva quay when a car hit the curb, and had a massive crush just 10 meters behind me. I hope people who were riding it are ok, but I was way too scared and lost to come over and check on them, so I just ran. An old man came out of one of the coffeshops, he came over and asked me where I was going. I would not answer, cause the first thing I thought was he was going to get me somewhere and rape me, but the next thing he said made me change my mind "Listen, I'm a tired old man, I have two children just about your age, you look tired and scared and there's probably someone waiting for you at home, so let me give you a ride until something bad happens to you". He gave me a ride to a hotel and told me not to make my mom nervous again. But when I got to the hotel I realised I didn't have a hotel key, so I couldn't enter a building, so I had to call a receptionist and I didn't have any money on my mobile phone account to do so! I had to ask complete strangers that were passing by to give me some money so I could make a phone call, and without hesitation they did do so! Finally I got home safely, found my mom asleep, cause well, she had to gain some stamina for telling me off in the morning :D
I don't think I would make it back to the hotel without these two complete strangers, so whenever you see someone who might need help, do help, cause even though it might be a small thing for you, it might as well be a life and death matter for that another person.
@missy @rambo @lyxzen thaanks for the amazing topic!
