I was saying in the pub last night how sad it was that all the legends seemed to be popping their cloggs in our life time. You know, people my age have 'legends' like Elvis to discuss and reference but ultimately don't appriciate and hold slight indifference to because he was dead long before we were born. Where as the 'legands' we love are the ones alive: Chuck Norris.
It's sad that our children will never know the joy the following people have brought into our lives, (mostly because they wont listen to 'old' people, or they will if they are geeks who enjoy watching acient DVDs): Steve Irwin, Pavaroti, Barry White, Bernie Mac, James Brown, Heath Ledger.
I mention this as I had completely forgotten about this particular death untill reading about it in popbitch. Mark Speight. I've always loved him. He was my favourite SMart presenter, and funny man in genral. I remenber when he was in the Blue Peter panto one year.
How sad is it that he commited suicide.
I'm now looking up celebrity deaths. My mate at the pub said Bettie Page died this week. I thought she'd been dead for years but we shall see how wrong whoever it was that told me that was. I didn't know the kid from Never Ending Story commited suicide. Another tale of woe. Was I that busy in 2004, whilst doing my GCSEs, finishing school, that I didnt notice the death of Marlon Brando?
Maybe I should just go back to reading popbitch.
[edit] oh my god! I know it was in 2003, but how come I don't remenber Glenn Quinn dying? I loved him! I'm very sad now....
I also didn't know Dudley Moore was dead. There was a guy called Kermit Love, who worked at the Hennson creature shop. What's the betting that's not his real name?
Roy Scheider????????? I read an article in SFX on him last month, it never said he was dead!
