So my sister is having her first baby in about a month and a half and she's pretty nervous. For starters, she was thought to be sterile so this was a big surprise to all of us. Secondly, she has said that she is not ready to have kids but she's happy nonetheless. My sister has had a fascination with animals ever since she was a kid. I rememvber growing up and she'd always brinh in stray cats and keep them; she's crazy.
She has a thing for cats and will do anything for them. So she had three persians; Marla, Osito, and Toby (aka Tobias). To her, these cats are probably on the same level as a human being because she has had them since they were babies and she loves them to death. Marla & Osito live with her boyfriends parents and Toby lives with her right now. Since she's pregnant, she cant have any cats around her for very long since the baby is on its way....especially persians which are 98% hair. So she was consdering putting him up for adoption because no one wanted to take him in and she didnt want to risk sending Toby with the other two...because frankly they would give him hell as theyre very spoiled territorial cats.
Anyway, so I was talking to her and I offered to take Toby in for a while...totallty thinking she would say no. For one, I live in a high rise with a wall of windows that have no screens...so there's that hazard. I also thought the fact that i dont know how to even fully take care of myself would be reason enough for her not to entrust the life of her child incarnate to me...but of course she was desperate.
In about two weeks I willl have to look after the cat. IVE NEVER HAD AN ANIMAL THAT IVE LOOKED AFTER. I called her last night and told her the "good news" and she was really happy.
me: "So when do I pick him uo or what?"
her: "well it wont be for like another two weeks so Ill let you know"
me: "oh ok....so does he have everything or do I have to buy stuff?"
Pretty dumb question on my part because not only does she have everything a cat could need, she has gone far beyond that. She has a cat stroller...yes a cat stroller that she puts the cats in and walks them along the beach. Yeah, she's insane I know. Also, she's not like creepy or weird so its funny.
so yeah back to my question,
me: "oh ok....so does he have everything or do I have to buy stuff?"
her: "oh no, he has everything and his luggage ready"
Um..Luggage? Cat luggage? Oh sweet baby jesus.
Im really nervous that Im going to end up killing the cat. What is the cat going to do while Im here at work? What do cats do while theyre alone? She says he doesnt pee and scratch stuff which better be true or else I'll have a new scarve for spring. She also said he's an attention whore and he meows for everything...oh and he likes to be held a lot.
Ive never even met Toby. He's fairly new cause the cat before him died so he was a new replacement from my sister's bf. I hope he likes me. I dont even remember the last time I had an animal living with me, so this should be good...
