So my parents came and stayed with me for the holiday weekend, and as you may or may not be aware such encounters are always rather fraught. As such I planned as many "events" as possible. The schedule read as follows:
Friday: Lunch, King Tut exhibit at the Field Museum, drinks and dinner at NOMI.
Saturday: Stone tile shopping at Merchandise Mart, four hour tree tour at the Morton Arboretum, dinner at Carmines, drinks at the Penninsula and Wicked.
Sunday: Brunch and time for them to go, followed by me getting hammered at the Cubs/Giants game.
So as you can imagine I am pretty much exhausted. Highlights included:
David Crosby being in our tour group at King Tut. He said the following things to his 6'5" handler that made my day-
Upon seeing the hand painted perfume boxes: "This is what I'm always telling you about, serious artistry shit."
Upon seeing the cuniary jar that held Tut's liver: "Mine was WAY too big for that jar when they took it out."
The arboretum was actually really cool. My Dad is a big tree guy so that's why I scheduled it, but I will go back there. It was insane. 2,700 acres of trees. Sounds lame but it SO WASN'T. Check it out if you're in or near Chicago.
And Wicked was great. I had never seen it and had heard from 100s of people thet it was great, but it STILL exceeded my expectations. AWESOME production.
So I'm trying to catch my breath and get some sleep this wek after fer too many activities. Sorry to have missed
trocc's bbq, and hope everyone had a great time.
