It is once again time for my obligatory post UFC pay-per-view geek-out journal entry. highmonkey and I caught UFC 47 last Friday. There were some pretty great matches throughout the card but the main event was the one everybody was looking forward to: the grudge match between Chuck Liddell and Tito Ortiz. It wasn't for a title or the chance to advance, it was just a knock down, drag out pride fight. It lived up to it's potential. Liddell triumphed over Ortiz in a second round knock-out. We were all very happy about the outcome.
On a similar note, I have another favorite MMA fighter. A little weirdo by the name of Genki Sudoh. I've never seen him fight before, and for all intents and purposes his skill doesn't quite match his style, but he's a hell of a ring psychologist. He does all the goofy poses and postures that you never see anybody ever do in an MMA event. But the coup de grace of his performance are his spectacular ring entrances.
June promises another great card. Ken Shamrock has come out of retirement to fight Kimo. My early prediction: Kimo over Shamrock via decision. It won't be pretty, but I think it'll be hard fought and will almost certainly go the distance. That has more to do with both fighters' age than it does with how well their respective skills match up. Also, Randy Couture may be returning from his eye injury at UFC 46. Hopefully he'll be getting a title rematch, but most likely it will just be a qualifier.
I applaud any member who has the patience or fortitude to find it in themselves to make it through my lengthy, breathless stream of conciousness musings on the sport of MMA. There's just something innately enthralling about seeing two guys punch, kick, elbow, knee and choke the living shit out of one another for fifteen minutes and then get up and congratulate each other afterwards. Something I'm sure everyone can appreciate to some degree is seeing it in 52" flat-screen plasma-riffic glory!
Unfortunately it looks like highmonkey's account has expired. In talking to him I've gathered that he doesn't know if he'll be renewing it. It's less to do with the site than it is with his work schedule. Between attending conventions and trade shows, getting Valherjar ready for launch and maintaining Game Monkeys he doesn't have much time to devote to the site. I've decided to respect his wishes and let him decide when, or if, he ever comes back. However, he related to me that he does notice an entirely new breed of girl than he ever used to.
And to close things out, here's a bit more uncommon wisdom from yours truly: Contrary to popular belief, I like to give people the benefit of the doubt. It allows me to be that much more pissed off when they inevitably disappoint me.
