With Valentine's Day only days away I have some words of advice for my fellow men: If a gift seems like a lame idea even to us, that is one horrendously shitty gift. Remember, no matter how proud you are of the gift that you got for her she's always going to be slightly less impressed than you are with the job you've done. This goes double for the "panic gift" or the one you give her in the interim. This is just a fact of life. So in short, if you don't want a two month membership in the Frozen-Out Boyfriend of the Month Club put down the Vermont Teddy Bear and for god's sake stop dialing the Star Registry!
That aside, I'll be observing the holiday much as I always do. That is, pretending that nothing is up. Business as usual, that sort of thing. My days of actively rebelling against the day are behind me. If it comes up, I may make someone at work feel like an insensitive jackass for thoughtlessly assuming that I'm amenable to all of the trappings and traditions of this trivial little "holiday". I said I got over my rebelliousness, I never claimed I wasn't an asshole.
On the upside, I'm looking forward to this Friday and the Black Valentine's Day burlesque show with Dita Von Teese. I'm not that sprung on her personally, but I've never been to a burlesque show. At the very least it'll give me a pretty good idea of what to expect from the SG burlesque show.
Seeing my thoughts in writing recently, it has become clear to me that I am the Gold Standard of the accidentally brilliant shit that the idle brain is sometimes capable of.
Have a Nice Weekend,
Matt
