It's hard to believe that I haven't posted a new journal in almost three weeks. I spent weeks putting the last real one together so can you blame me for wanting to get a little bit more mileage out of it? Worked out pretty well though. I might try doing another one of those sometime down the road.
I see that almost nobody got who Mickey Hargitay was from my last blog. That's okay, I didn't really expect that many people would. He's pretty obscure and old-school. He just happens to be from a film that is near and dear to my heart, Bloody Pit of Horror. It's this old Italian exploitation flick from the 60's. A couple years ago when I went down to SoCal on vacation I stopped in at one of the myriad junk shops that Hollywood is so famous for and stumbled upon the shirt completely by accident. Yeah, he always meant a lot to me. I'm a sentimental sap. I'm going to miss the guy.
What's more disappointing about all that is that I posted news of his passing in the cult film group and it didn't get a single comment. Unbelievable.
If whoever tagged Cain's latest set "You Can't Do That On Television" happens to be reading this, thanks for making my day. That was hysterical.
Finally got to meet Akira a couple of weeks ago, who is every bit the awesome mofo he seems to be on the site. Maybe moreso if that's possible. In any case that's one more step in my goal to eventually meet everyone on my friend list. It's an interminably slow-going task that I'm admittedly making harder on myself with each new addition. But I'm not a pretentious enough prick to auto-decline friend requests. That isn't a dig at anyone who does it. It's different when you have boobs. It's a double-standard, I'm not disputing that. Just stating the facts, man.
Volks, myself, Desdenova and his girlfriend met up for drinks last Saturday. It was a welcome diversion. I don't get to see them all that often but at least now there are tentative plans afoot for meet-ups in the near future.
I really want to go to a swap meet before summer is over. Who here is with me? I know I can count ChuckG on board. I haven't been to a swap meet in....oh, I guess it'd be almost twenty-odd years. All I can clearly remember is that I bought some old Japanese monster mag. Or maybe it was the Godzilla issue of Famous Monsters of Filmland. Can't remember. Obviously I don't have it anymore. It's funny to think that after all these years very little has changed in terms of my taste. I might only add velvet paintings, tiki decor and bowling shirts to the shopping list.
Well it's getting into the concert season again which means that for the most part I won't have an available weekend until December. But who would I be if I didn't at least tell you where you can find me. Or brag about how absolutely exciting my life is. However you choose to take it.
vs
MC Chris - 9/28 @ El Corazon....... Live Lucha Libre @ Fenix
I was initially conflicted. MC Chris or luchadores. I've heard MC Chris is good and I like what I've heard of him so far. I hear he puts on a killer live show. On the other hand, lucha libre man! The Fenix just took over the old Premier building and this is one of the best events scheduled there so far. Seriously, how many chances does one get to see high-flying luchadores and masked midgets duking it out in the squared circle outside of Mexico!
Hanzel und Gretyl & Bella Morte - 10/22 @ Fenix
HuG is the loudest band you'll ever hear. With the possible exception of Motorhead.
I went to this least year and it was an absolute blast. hypnogogic throws a party that is second only to Caligula himself.
45 Grave - 10/29 @ Fenix
KMFDM - 10/31 @ Neumos
This one's still up in the air. I keep hearing conflicting reports that it may be canceled.
Gwar - 11/8 @ Fenix
It's fucking Gwar. What else is there to say?
Cannibal Corpse - 11/24 @ El Corazon
Looks like I'm going to the quintessential bachelor party this Friday. My brother's getting married next week (yeah, another one) and this bachelor party is just the event I feared. It's going to be an evening of baseball, broads and booze. I will be the one to remain sober because god knows somebody has to be cognizant enough to reason with pissed off titty-bar bouncers and arrange for bail to be made. Depending on how things go I may be writing my next entry in 18 months. Wish me luck.
I'll be back next week with hopefully some pictures of the exploits and high-flying daring-do of lucha libre midgets. And I should probably get around to that next installment of carny lingo.
'Til next time,
Matt

If in general, we have the common interests of Satan and horror movies, which is hard to ignore.
