so my dad actually got things right for once and thought up a christmas present (although i still don't know why he does the christmas thing - we're both total atheists...) that i can really use: a big gift certificate to cheap joe's art supply. i know, sounds sketchy, but it's just a big warehouse of art supplies. they have a pretty thorough selection and good prices; i got a lot of my watercolor stuff from them. a big catalogue was included with the gift certificate. i was drooling over the glossy pics of the gesso. you should have seen me ogling the oil pastel centerfold...
art nerd. you know how it is.
so now i can finally rebuild my oil paint setup! i've wanted to buy new basic oil supplies for almost a year now, ever since i gave up and threw most of my paints out. that obviously put a stop to me painting for a while, but it really was time to get rid of some of that junk - most of it was paint tubes from the 70's, corroded, rusty, and messy as all hell. now i can jumpstart some of the projects that have been swimming about my head this past year. go dad! for once...
wonder what else i'll get.
actually, i already know: not much. the fam is pretty strapped now and we're all cutting back to basics this year. which is ok - i just wish we didn't have to worry so much about each others' finances...
family drama. meh.
i painted watercolors for the immediate fam and made crafty things for everybody else. made lots of cards (74 to be exact), to boot. since so many of my friends have so many different religious backgrounds i thought it best to choose a holiday mascot not immediately associated with any particular creed.
willem dafoe. oh yes, willem dafoe.
god i love that creepy, creepy man. only he could do a rewrite of the crucuble about lsd, go mainstream (successfully! think 'english patient,' think 'spider man,' think 'finding nemo') and then go back to making weird pieces like '...to you birdie (phaedra).' so he gets to be this year's mascot. i drew him slunking down the chimney with the santa costume and a bottle of wild turkey.
heh.
way to confuse the hell out of all my friends, right?
