Yep. It's my birthday. I'm officially old enough to get into the same bars I've been going to for years.
Ugh.
I FEEL old.
Had birthday dinner with the fam. I realized that what we do in our family is actually conversate, whereas some of my friends and their families have kind of rigid, two- dimensional conversations. I like that we have that sort of dynamic, but it is cause for some serious torture sometimes. The quote from today's dinner conversation was between my dad and my sister, and she says "Wait, wait wait- you're allowed to talk about dismemberment over dinner, but I'm not allowed to mention cannibalism? That's not very fair, now is it?"
We had decided on the Olive Garden out of exasperation and hunger, not out of desire to do something different. Later on Kira declared that Olive Garden would be the perfect cover for the mafia, because nobody would ever believe that authentic Italians could be behind such a crass misrepresentation of Italian culture. Fucking classic.
After eating we were all sluggish and full, we get home and my dad says "hey Erin, can you help me with something?" "noooo, whaaat, i wanna take a naaap!" "just- come here, and can you hand me that box over there?" "where!?"
I realize something is up because my mom and sister are standing there watching me search for this "box" when I see something under the dining room table. It's not a box... it's an instrument case. It's a strangely shaped instrument case. My first thought is that it's a trombone and I wonder what sort of sick... wait. Sitar.
IT'S A SITAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm not sure anyone understands how awesome this is. I've wanted a sitar for a couple years now, but something always got in the way of it, or I couldn't find one at a reasonable price or someone to teach me how to play it. All those things have come into place now. So overwhelmingly awesome. Now I have two babies: my video camera and my new sitar.
Hopefully I'll be able to shoot my first SG set tomorrow. Getting sick of waiting. Keep feeling like backing out, wondering if I shouldn't hold off for a couple months until I've gone to the gym more and lost a couple more pounds... but you know what? I'll never be satisfied if I start with that kind of thinking. If I feel like I'm hot the way I am, I think I should capture that.
