My flat is freezing cold (original victorian windows - beautiful feature in the summer when we got the place, nasty feature now its winter and double glazing is totally necessary) and I really should get dressed. and find a job. But I have to post to tell the world (or at least the extremely limited part of it that this goes out to) to listen to (or buy if you've got disposable income) the new album by Burial called Untrue.
I guess you'd classify it as dub-step, that new trendy sounding music from the bright lights of London town, but its a lot less in your face than most other dub-step artists. Its a beautiful, restrained and emotional sound. Which is obvioulsy extremely rare for music made on computers. Its got a sound of minimal drum and bass and ambient garage and Im fully aware of how shit that may sound but its a lot better than that description seems.
Burial himself seems like a lovely chap, very geeky and unsure of himself. In a recent Guardian interview he says that:
"I've had times when I've had mates sitting next to me and they've put my tunes on without knowing. I would just sit there whispering to myself, 'Please don't put that on - or at least, don't say anything bad about it,"
Which seems pretty cute. But later in that same interview he says music shouldn't be about personalities, so lets not dwell on him...
Anyway, this is a beautiful soundtrack for dark city walks and uncertain bus journeys. Could actually be better than the new Radiohead album...
