Hooray for sleepless-ful-ish-ness. Or something like that anyway.
I was tired, but not seeking rest yet. Mind still churning away. So here's a bit of something I started toying around with.
I was watching a movie the other day, and it struck me. This movie so spoke to me, so captured something in me and reflected it back that I thought, "I could show this movie to anyone I'd just met and tell them they now knew something a bit more about me, they knew ME better just by seeing this movie."
So I wondered. What are five movies I could pick up off my shelf, point to, and say "These are me" to anyone and they would understand the person I am so much better. So, without further ado, here's the list:
1.) Chasing Amy - This was the flick I was watching when I really began musing on this. This movie, and its themes of love and relationships, totally speaks to me. I could be any of these main characters, I can wrap my brain around any one of them, see their side of things, love and feel as they do. This movie is how love should be for me. Unrestrained, uninhibited, pure, and unconditional.
2. The Empire Strikes Back - Arguably my favorite one of the entire Star Wars saga. It has everything, from that first awesome kiss, to the big mind blowing reveal. It touches on love, philosophy, there is betrayal, heroism. This is storytelling at its absolute best! And the person I am is surely so influenced by these movies I watched over and over and over as a kid. There's a bit of Han Solo in me.
3. Josie and the Pussycats - This is the one movie anyone can watch and know what I seek in another human being. Josie pretty much embodies everything I like, the spirit, the fun, the creativity, the girl that isn't some cut and paste version of beauty. The list I did of wants, I'm pretty sure Josie (or a girl like her you see) would meet or exceed all of those points. And this also has a good point on my tastes in music. If you like it cool, if not, that's cool too.
4. Fight Club - Here's a movie that spoke to me so directly, and continues to do so the older I get. Its like when Palahnuk wrote it he picked out things from my brain and wrote them down. What a man is worth, what make up a man, and what can tear him down to the most basic level. Its all here. I admit to wondering if I could pull off something like Project Mayhem, because I think we could all do for a reset. Also, Brad Pitt in this movie makes me salivate. Something about him.
5. Braveheart - This is my favorite movie of all time. And people usually expect one of the Star Wars flicks to take this spot, so they're surprised when I tell them otherwise. The passion, the courage, the conviction in this movie are what I want to feel in life all the time. I want to love the fiercely, I want to believe in an ideal that deeply, and I want to inspire people to rise up and be better than their station allows. Hollywood embellished on the historical facts, yes, but it made for an awesome story, and the themes and points remain intact. All men die, but not all men truly live. I wonder, have I lived yet?

There's a moment in Swingers too, the leaving the answerphone message scene. I've been that guy, not knowing if i've said too much, or too little. And the look on his face when its over? Captured perfectly. No words necessary.
Will have to check Josie then too.
And now? just hoping that we can make our own movie moments in future.
