so i just finished watching ghost in the shell two....interesting movie. liked the first one better. but it leads me to some intriguing philosophical thoughts.
i know now sitting at my little folding table with my laptop that i am alive. if i cut myself i bleed and the pain helps focus my mind. but i sometimes still wonder about what the hell we as a race or as a species are doing with our lives on the planet.
i don't mean save the fuckign spotted owl or go vegitarian or anything. but besides acting like a virus or some sort of parasite are we doing anything to better the planet?
this is when i wish i could sit down and design some artifical life forms. then let them go loose in the wild. i don't mean in the mad scientist kind of way, cloning creratures from the past to let loose on the u.s. for terrorist pourposes but to enhance the natural beatuy of thinks. imagine walking through a forest and seeing a beautiful metalic animal staring back at you.
often times as i walk the dog, i find myself thinking about how the world would change if the human race suddenly vanished. and i mean vanish, not extinct but drop it down to a couple hundred people world wide. would the dogs and cats take over? what about the animals at the zoo? could they get out before they stared to death or have we contained them to a point that there are really savage pets?
how would the roads and building react to being utterly neglected. would the bridges still stand the test of time. or will the golden gate simply rust to pieces and fall into the water?
i often wonder about the wqhole globly warming thing. i know somewhere out there there is a guy who has mapped out the world if the ice caps melted. i love thinking about how most of those places we consider cultured would be under water. think mississippi ocean. raise the water table up another hundred feet or so and new england and the east and west coasts are gone.
but back the artificial lifeforms. there was for a while a design theroy to go more organic. with the whole geometric blocky, shaped based design scheme of things isn't amazing that some alien lifeform hasn't come down here to llaugh at our child like construction techniques... i a firm believer i nthe try to return to nature philosophy of design. hey it worked for god. let's prove ourselves as a species and create on the scale of the gods themselves. maybe then we can put asidce all our third grade petty indifferences and something like heaven may dawn....
holy fuck where the hell did that come from?!
