SushiMonster said onFebruary 18, Yeah the strike sucks now, but in the long run it might be a good thing. The league was in a downward spiral due to high salaries and now if they get a serious salary cap hockey can be saved - I think.
Also, whatever fan momentum the NHL had is now gone and Hockey will return to being a niche sport, right where it belongs. And hopefully the downsizing of the NHL will return of some of the teams back to Canada where they belong. (except for the Avs)
Does Nashville really want or need hockey???
What in your opinion is wrong with the game?
well sushi....there are many a thing wrong with the game.
firstly...let's open up the game and get rid of the red line. fuck the left wing lock when you can have a guy like martin st. louis or billy gurein rock your goalie on the breakaway!
two... get some fucking p.r. how about the guys that do the ads for espn. those are fucking funny! but first you need a deal. have the players start it. the whole "we're, coming back. we're coming back." that is how you get the edge of the seat fans back. the hard core will come back but it's the guy that watches at the bar while he's trying to mack on some broad. that's the guy we need back.
next... lower the fucking prices...i shouldn't need to get a loan to take my wife and trwo kids out to the games. i spent 160 for two tickets to the bruins when i lived in boston. that's fucking ridiculous! (and i didn't even get laid)
then you have to get the players out there. show 'em off. not that i'm talking nude calendars but get more faces on the tube.
but of course there are those who talk of contraction. with the right deal i don't think that it's a necessity. but if new york wants to pop the cap and spend for mistakes like eric lindros. (and i'm a flyers fan, and i'll do nothing but talk shit about the guy that got me into hockey after i saw an interview with him on mtv sports, back in the day.) then they can match that to be distributed to other teams. i got no problem with that. that's the whole point of the cap, besides keeping salaries down. (i.e. paul kariya is not a ten million dollar player) (but then again nobody is)
then there are all kinds of talk about the schedule changes...get the rivalries back, have the east play the west in only the playoffs... i love the bad blood. nothing like boston/ montreal or islanders/rangers/devils/flyers and as much as i hate the av's there is nothing like redwings/ avalanche...nothing like a rivalry...i say more divison play. get the rivalries going. what would it be like to have a florida panthers/ tampa bay lightin rivalry...a real one...one besides the one that the guys at espn try to play up.
but then again free agency ruined the good bad blood...but it's part of the game now...sigh...
i could go on and on...but i'd lose track and wander off and repeat myself...

I am too inundated with school closings and Yankee induced snow watches as I waddle around in 7 month pregnantness to comment on much of anything but back pain.
