Yey - my first week is FINALLY over!
So okay, first things first...
As my ex-mentor put it in his extremely supportive email to me:
"Well, well, life in your first teaching post is never easy, its never what you expect, its always different. The first year is the most difficult and that's because you are getting used to a new series if sysytems and the peoplle that 'run' those systems are getting used to you!!!!!????!!!!"
- there's nothing like experience to put things in there place
So, it was an good end to a rough week.
I had to C3 (that's give a kid a detention) for walking out on my lesson after I gave him a 5 min cool-off period. He came in and just was bloody rude, used a few expletives at me and said he didn't want to be in my lesson, so before I could get my line manager (head of the dept) to see him, he grabbed his bag and blazer jacket and wallked out of the room. Little bugger I did him for truanting!
(He had the balls to make a complaint against me saying that I was f-ing and blinding... hmm I have 28 other pupils who will say that I didn't - I love idiots!
So, there's that, several run-in's with members of staff who expect me to know stuff as if I have been teaching for 10 years+ in subject areas that I haven't got a clue about (see previous journal entry) Expressive (f)Art's - baaa!
I also had a 'passionate' discussion with my new boss about the appropriateness of showing certain images to pupils in art - for example nudity. After a long winded lecture by him about Londoners like myself moving to the area and then the Locals who've been sending their kids to this school for decades, it was decided that Cindy Sherman and Sarah Lucas are out and Michaelangelo is in. And that's what is acceptable in this school... someone for christ's sake help me!
"That sort of artwork and artist is acceptable in London, but not here!"
*UPDATED*
--------------
So, all in all, I can't/am not allowed to teach in the same way as I am used to teaching, and have to appeal to middle-england, right-wing tossers who seem to think that the world begins and ends at the Blackwall Tunnel - assholes!
Tonight, I'm missing charliehamster, she has a job which sucks - she has to work in a supermarket in the evening, so I don't get to cuddle her, and have to write evil lesson plans instead!! I look forward to the day when I know how lessons go without having to back myself up! Grrrr NQT year!
Ciel's all over the place tonight, and I keep on having daydreams of driving my car - I need to get a life!
Tomorrow I'm trading in 3 old games (Spiderman 2, Ninja Gaiden and Splinter Cell) to buy the new Burnout 3 - vaaarooom vaaaroom! Then I'm painting the bedroom and putting together the furniture next tuesday! I love my flat! It's wicked!
Okay, class 7Y-ARH's calling me... Fluxus/Self Portraits. Yeah, you heard me Fluxus to a group of 12/13 year-olds! Why not?
