What inspired you to become a SuicideGirl?
“I had always wanted to become a SuicideGirl, but never had the confidence after certain men told me I couldn't become a model, so I just stuck with photography. Started photographing sets for hopeful and official SG's in 2016, and as I began to shoot more and work with others, they inspired me to give it a shot! The expansive, supportive, and interactive community made me thankful to find other people like me who don't necessarily fit into the mold of what society says.“
How did you come up with your SG name?
“So, Filicity means "happiness". That's something I've always struggled with in life, it's an up-and-down battle, but in the last few years I feel like I have found joy again. Along with its whimsical nature, the name reminds me of a Victorian era-essence, the bliss that comes with sheer faith. Filicity, to me, represents my renewed-self, while staying true to my inner-vintage-artist.”
Have you gone to a shootfest or do you plan on attending one?
“Shootfests are the rare times of the year you get to gather with all of your friends you don't get to see often, and also meet some wonderful new faces! Living far apart, we usually don't get to spend time with our fellow SG models and photographers as much as we'd like, so these events are incredibly special! We work mostly, shoot sets all day for several days straight, but visit and have fun as well! Some of the best memories I'll ever cherish <3”
If you had a warning label, what would it say?
“(Fragile) handle with care.“
How do you relieve stress?
“Drawing girly things/anime.”
What are you studying in college?
“I'm studying for my Bachelors in TV/Media Production with a minor in Visual Communications (Photography)”
Share some fun facts about the city you live in.
“It's Nashville, y'all! Love my hometown, but it's getting crazy here folks. We are the epicenter of country music, BUT did you know that we are the #1 city in the country for bachelor and bachelorette parties? Yeah, I know, just imagine crowds of 'em, now TRIPLE that! All of them downtown in the honky tonk bars and streets, drunk as hell. Welcome to the South!”
What's your confidence boosting secret weapon?
“Victoria's Secret Bombshell Perfume! Always my go-to.”
Tell us about your favorite images you’ve shot as a photographer.
“Some of my favorite pictures, behind-the-scenes, it's a hilarious set-up. Between random lights everywhere, me posing the model, or glittery fabric I'm shooting through, it looks chaotic. I've always gone all-out though, hanging off sides of houses or once jumping into a pond full of leeches. The end result is worth all the effort!”
If you could shoot anywhere, where would it be?
“Probably the woodlands of Canada or a place like Iceland. Those landscapes are hauntingly beautiful, and some of my favorite photos include that kind of atmosphere.”
If you could shoot anything, who or what would it be?
“I would love to eventually do short films of objects/nature, artistic pieces focusing on the fundamental beauty all around us that often goes unnoticed.”
Best for advice for dealing with haters?
“Don't stoop down to their level, even react to them. That adds fuel to the fire. Continue to push positivity out into the world, be kind to others, help when you're needed, be a friend. Striving to be a good person will reward you in different aspects of your life.”
"I just want to say, the members of SG gave me the confidence and courage to step in front of the camera. I'm so grateful for their support and everyone in this community!" - @filicity
