so i get stuck looking for an old school grind band i liked years back, (the ultimate warriors) hoping to find them somewhere online, googling them and whatnot, and i find this message board - with said band - mentioned in a hardcore forum. they were all talking, ranting and raving, over analyzing, and just all around being genre nazi's... but some of them were being this way for good reason. some of them knew what they were really talking about.
the analysts were trying to explain that your "white belt grind" (great term btw) is NOT GRINDCORE. i fucking hate how scensters who have no idea what grindcore is, coin the term with one of there famous glam-esque HARDCORE bands. and the same goes with MYSPACE; EVERYBODY and there mother under the music search engine claims to be grind. i bet if i actually checked half of these bands, a very, VERY, VERY small percentage would even be grindcore influenced. whats so hard to understand?!??!
if you dont know exactly what the genre is... and you are not LITERATE/read up on this shit, DONT start up a fucking band that is of the GRINDCORE persuasion! you and your tassled, hairsprayed head of hair, star imprented belts, tight, patched jeans, and fashion altogether are looked at as a fucking JOKE in this scene! get your bands straight. and just because you just started listening to every band on RELAPSE doesnt mean every band they sign IS in fact of this particular group! you wont gain any extra attention for trying to like some death-grind band to help get you into the grind scene.

AND THE LOCUST, THE DAUGHTERS, AND DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN ARE NOT AUTHENTIC GRIND. i know you have to start somewhere, ive only been getting into this genre since 99'-00, and theres still alot of shit i probably dont know...but i know the foundation of the genre, who started it, i know who coined the term, i can tell when i hear it if its accurate or not, (which doesnt take much rationalizing, and if you cant tell, you shouldnt be listening to it) i can tell you the subgenres of grind that matter, and which are keeping it invigorating(namely power violence, the most oldschool, and knuckles to the ground)and i sure as fuck am not into the scene to look cool. it wasnt built for the 'in' type, it was ingrained for enthusiasts of music. not appearance. and thats the way it should stay. now, if you look like a scenster, and you play actual grindcore, then, thats awesome. now, there are a few bands that i really like that arent necessarily grind, but i can see that, and i know that theyre atleast influenced by the actual genre in someway or another.
all in all, if its one thing im closed minded to - its certain people only half-assed attempting to delve into certain genres - as ignorant as that is of me, thats the one thing i cant stand... when people think they know there music-my music-and dont; at all. its an embarassment to me when i see other people make fools of themselves almost deliberately. -.- im a genre nerd; and an elitist of grindcore. sorry people.
maybe this will get out to one or two of them, and they'll describe it to their two thousand myspace buddies. maybe this way i can filter the stupids from a genre only been around for 20 some odd years...
