A Small Elephant
Michael S Walker (copyright 2020)
What I need is a small elephant
To stand outside and clean the windows
While inside
I paint my masterpieces
A small elephant I am convinced
Will only attract a crowd
A crowd of bourgeoise people
People who will stand around and wonder
Who lives there?
Who is it who can afford a small elephant
To clean his windows like that?
Perhaps the quality of my art will suffer
Given the time needed to feed and clean
And bed a small elephant.
Maybe I’ll give up painting all together
Maybe it’s no matter
Can’t think of a better way to
Drum up some business
A small elephant
I’m convinced such a purchase
Would have made even taciturn Van Gough
Famous in his time.
