I was at Westminster Abby a few years back, standing in line waiting to get in. A man several people in front was asked to take his hat off before entering the religious site. The couple right in front of me were, I’m guessing Muslim, as the woman was wearing a Hijab. No one asked her to remove her headwear, they respected her faith, even on their holy ground. The second part, for anyone who has never had the privilege of seeing this place, they ask for a moment of silence at the top of every hour as a prayer is said around through the Abby. The Muslim couple stop, and stood quietly and respectfully during the moment of silence, as they respected another's faith. Witnessing these two simple moments, gave me hope that it is possible for people, even of different faiths, ethnicities, etc, to be respectfully and simply be good human beings to each other. Not everyone views different as wrong and/or scary. We are all humans, and just want to simply live our lives as we find our way through this often difficult world. Acceptance and tolerance makes it less difficult to find our way, to find happiness amongst each other.
