I read and wrote a lot this weekend. I spent a lot of time with my family and the best thing about my family is that they don't try to entertain you. You can hang out, talk, read, or just share space and everything's cool. I ate a lot of tropical fruit and vegetables. Everything my grandmother cooks is organic so everything was very yummy and fresh. I still can't stand all the spiders in her country home, but I said a little bad gris gris prayer to the spiders and they left me alone. Spiders in the country are spikey and colorful; they scare the piss out of me. I just walked around the outside of her house and count them like Rain Man or something. One, two, three, yeah.. definitely need to call an Exterminator. Definitely. My grandmother kept telling me she'd been there 25 years and NEVER had the house sprayed. She said she just prayed and the bugs pretty much left her alone. Ha! Friday morning she woke up with a spider bite and she saved the spider for us to look at.
It was a Brown Recluse.
Her leg is huge and full of all this heat. The center is black and puffy. She went to the emergency room as we were leaving today and the doctor confirmed it. Her foot was getting numb, but he says she should be okay with some steroids and antibiotics.
My grandma and I sat at the table sipping coffee talking about the Bible yesterday afternoon. She had greek dictionaries and two different versions of the Bible and she was laying it all out. She never ceases to amaze me. Just when I think I have a REALLY good question to stump her she always teaches me something new. She doesn't just read me something, she says, "Let's look up what that word means in greek..." and breaks it down. She can explain any scripture to me. Plus, she talks about everything going on in the Middle East and how it is reflected in the Bible. It blows me away. She's such a smart lady and she keeps it simple at the same time.
In other words, I had a wonderful time.
More on Grandma's house soon... I have a lot to say about it.
