Have you ever had a headache that lasted 7 weeks? (Actually it may have started earlier than that.)
On September 13th my wife and I were in Chicago to see the Twins play the White Sox. I woke up and my right eye was swollen shut. We went to the emergency room, and the doctor recognized the problem right away. Shingles.
Shingles is caused by the chicken pox virus which can survive dromant in the nerves. Ususally it shows up in people over 60.
I spent 72 long hours stuck in the hospital, while they pumped me full of IV antivirals and antibiotics.
Painkillers, even the hardcore ones, don't control the pain and itching. My doctor finally gave me a medication that works on the nerves. Even that isn't perfect, but for the last 3 weeks, at least I've been able to sleep.
On a lighter note, the hell of that hospital stay has given me an idea for a tattoo.

Yeah, I figured it was quite common. My family is very medically sound, as my grandfather (Mom's dad) was one of the better doctors of this century (In Who's Who) especially with the work he did at Harvard Med school pediatrics and his invention of part of the mechanical heart. So, my Mom worked for him a bit doing lab work, blah blah blah it runs in the family so she knew what she was doing.
It's so far back to remember I can't remember if they were annoying or not. I remember one instance when I had them and was running around some new building at school but that's it. The rest is blocked. haha
Once you let your hair grow, the hair strands stretch the pores so the skin doesn't itch anymore, my beard never itches (unless you don't comb it of course and your skin gets dry) and actually shaving constantly can cause the exact same skin irritation.
I originally started out with "the goat", and then at college said fuck it and went for the full beard. What I have now is probably not what I'll go with for the rest of my life, or even at my job, but its interesting to say the least to have another look.
Beards are great, they are masculine and awesome. I truly feel bad for all my friends that can't grow one. It's funny for as much as society puts them down in the corporate world everyone loves mine, girls, guys, etc.
Beardism needs to stop as does tattoism.
I just got my interview with Enterprise on Friday btw, sent my "phone conversation email" (yeah I know, makes no sense) in and she called me back 2 hours later to set up a meeting.
So we'll see if I'll be doing this or not on Friday at 1030am. Part of me wants to say fuck all this shit and work at UPS and the other half says this Enterprise bit is better for my resume, looks better for when I eventually leave and do something else.
What to do...what to do..
All I know is I'm going to two hockey games this weekend.
