Lots of fanfare and hype...
Not having anything better to do, when I heard that the Twins were having an open house Saturday morning at Target Field, the wife and I got up early to check it out. It only cost $2 to get in. We got downtown at 9:30 and rode the light rail from the dome to Target Field. The U of M baseball team was on our train since they were playing Lousiana Tech at 1:00 as part of the event.
Considering it was March, the weather wasn't too bad, though the wind was a little raw. We did end up buying gloves to keep our hands warm.
Of all the food items we sampled the hot chocolate was the best. The foot long hot dog was pretty good. The $10 steak sandwich was over cooked and under seasoned and a big disappointment. The pizza was just OK.
Personally, I was never unhappy with the Metrodome. I liked the fact that the game always started on time rain or shine, and hot or cold it was always comfortable.
It has taken a couple of days to figure out what I want in a ball park, but I think I have it now. I want a good seat close to the action for a reasonable price. I want a good hot dog and maybe some peanuts brought to me while I watch the game. I want to see the Twins play well and hopefully win. I want to be able to park close and leave quickly after the game. I want to know that the game will be played on time and in its entirety. Target Field is none of that.
That said, I'm not thrilled with Target Field. I never was since the day it was first announced. This is really just a monument to big business, crazy salaries and fan appeasement. My wife is not nearly the cynic that I am, but she didn't spend 20 seasons at the Metrodome.
In May and June we'll be traveling to 3 of the most interesting ballparks, Yankee Stadium, Fenway Park, and Miller Park. Maybe my opinion will soften after that, though I have my doubts.

England has done it so many times. The irony is the kids on my forum where saying how their keepers are better than ours.....

Tim Howard is the ultimate bad ass. One of my favorite players of all time.
