Am I the only American that cant get worked up about today? like everyone else i remember exactly where i was and what i was doing when i first heard the news, and all day at school (i was a senior in high school) all we did was watch the news and talk about what was happening. ive lived in new york, right down on wall street, and ive seen the most visible aftereffects: the cops in combat gear with automatic weapons that were always parked on the corner of wall and broad, the extra cops on the subway on random days, etc. i used to ride right by the wtc site during my out and backs from my apartment to battery park. i know how many were killed and how dramatically the attacks changed US foreign and domestic policy.
but honestly? figures vary, but at least 30,000 people have been killed in drug-related violence during the last 3 1/2 years in mexico. how many people have been the victims bombings during the Israel-Palestine conflict? how many innocents in africa or even libya? i dunno. im just having a hard time with it all. trying hard not to be cynical about it. not doing a very good job.
fuck it.
in other news, if i pass a background check it looks like my first official date as a permanent employee will be october 1st. cant wait, since my mind is fucking with my intestines again, and im back to paranoia and making myself sick. operating on a very basic diet, and i think im going to pare back the amount of caffeine i take in. already switch out the red meat in the spaghetti i eat for turkey. cutting back on the drinking. started the process of getting the tips of my fingers back into shape to learn my guitar. the bonus this time is my hand doesnt get tired, which i attribute to all the clutch-holding i have to do in traffic.
cant wait for the heat to break. the smoke is making sunsets and the moon a little bloody.
rewatching the first three seasons of sons of anarchy before i start the download process now that season four has begun. might be time i looked up true blood again too.
still settling in at my new place. theres almost always someone downstairs, which bugs me. the last time i sat down to play super mario world one of my roommates sat down out of nowhere and starting giving me tips on how to play (nevermind the fact that i was old enough to play when it first came out 20 years ago and he was still learning how to talk).
