im procrastinating. in the middle of applying for a job at time warner but rewriting another cover letter is mind numbing. also, whats the fuckin deal with having to spend half an hour registering with a website every time i want to apply for a job?
i sent an email asking for an eta on a decision. theyre "hopefully making a decision very soon" and i should be contacted "shortly." still fearful theyre going to tell me no. actually thinking about what it would take to move home when my unemployment benefits run out in six more weeks. is a very depressing thought, since my parents live in the middle of fucking nowhere.
ive always been a pretty quiet, shy person. lots of loud random noise deeply annoys me. kids screaming, car horns blaring, people yelling into their cell phones, singing to themselves, etc. the amount of sound produced on new york streets makes me long for the empty prairie of wyoming. its 'worse' right now. im at the point where i dont even want to been seen or talk to my roommates.
couple of sad deaths: Greg Giraldo and Jure Robic. Giraldo was absolutely hilarious. i didnt realize that he had a law degree from harvard (harvard!) but gave it up to do stand up.
Robic was an endurance cyclist. i didnt really know who he was, but read his obituary with interest. ive read articles about endurance cycling before, and perk up when i come across news. the distances those people ride are absolutely insane. his record of 518.7 miles in 24 hours gives him an average speed of just over 21.6 mph. Robic apparently rode 28,000 miles a year, which i gather is about 3,000-4,000 more miles than the typical professional cyclist.
in personal cycling news, my rollers should be here tomorrow. i know my form still sorta sucks and completely goes to hell on rides longer than 40 miles. the rollers should help with that. ultimately the goal is to train over the winter and hit the ground rolling in the spring so i can ride in the montauk century next may (provided im still in new york).performance bicycle ships things pretty quickly, which is great.
also, if youre at all interested in mass transit news and happen to live in new york, san francisco, dc, or la, you might want to check out http://www.streetsblog.org/. ive been using it the last couple of months to fill time, and ive learned a fair bit about mass transit happenings in new york and new jersey.
