i wish i could say i'm excited for "life on the murder scene", but i cried watching the trailer. it's the band that for the first time, made me feel alive. it gave me a purpose in life, something to look forward to. they weren't perfect people. it was a band of sissies, mama's boys, drunks and potheads. they gave jersey kids something to believe in, like these guys knew exactly where they were coming from. they grew up in those boring jersey towns, they were dorky and didn't fit in. almost everyone had their personal theme song, a song that made them feel alive, and not nessesarily because of the lyrics.. mine is, has, and always will be "skylines and turnstiles". going to their shows back then was magical. it was beyond seeing other fans, it was like being in a cult and seeing the higher being. everyone at the show was there for the same reason, and everyone was family. for that time, no one cared about scene ethics, or if it was your first time or your 25th. you could walk up to any of them at the show, and it was like saying hi to your best friend.
then "revenge" came out. they stopped coming out after shows. the venues were larger, the family got smaller. no one sang along until "i'm not okay" was played, and even then, it was half hearted. girls came with their glitter makeup, low cut shirts, thongs, armpit bags and attitudes. you know, those girls. the ones who find the lead singer hot but wouldn't have given him a second glance 5 years before when he was stocking shelves in barnes and noble and ringing up groceries at pathmark. and the music reflected the change; a half hearted concept album with filler.
soon, old friends and aquaintances were dropped for newer, hotter friends in LA. who too would have ignored them pre-fame. girlfriends who stood by their sides when starving and sleeping in the van gig to gig was a way of life were dumped for "hot babes" who are attention whores and grasp onto any amount of internet fame they can get, flaunting engagement rings, shopping trips and expensive "just because" gifts. their hometown and state became street cred, when almost everyone on the original scene gave up on them, and now those kids younger brothers and sisters like them, not those kids who were family 3 years ago.
my chemical romance has gone from something beautiful, something so full of potential and greatness, and has become a corporation. the boys sold out, cashed in and moved up, and kicked their old lives to the curb. releasing something like this is supposed to be the final fuck you. but in all reality, they're just hurting themselves.
