Xmas is over=. I saw my brother who lives in Monterey, CA...he is in the US Marine Corps. I only get to see him once per year and that's just long enough for me to get used to him being around. Then he leaves again...sigh.
I did get some cool stuff for Xmas...an iPod, a new car(!), games, books and really cool tower fan I have been wanting forever. Nerd, I know. It all seems a little insignificant right now...
My wife's grandfather is dying of brain cancer. Bummer, I know. I just have to get it off my chest a little. We saw him on Xmas eve...he went into the hospital shortly after. He's a good man and the world will be a little worse off without him. I lost my dad last September so I know what she's going through.
Despite all of that, I am just thankful I don't live in Sri Lanka. Seriously, how bad do YOU have it? Do you have to deal with a tsunami? It makes our everyday problems like our credit cards, shitty parents, shitty jobs & shitty cars seem like absolutely nothing.
How's this for a shitty job: wake up and go collect the corpses that have washed up on the beach during the night so they can be buried anonymously in a mass grave. Oh yeah and by the way, your home was destroyed last week, everyone you know is dead and you're not getting paid. Kind of puts things in perspective.
The Western world has not a goddamn thing to complain about. We have too much as it is...much more than we can ever use and certainly much more than we deserve.
Angry.
Sad.
Hurt.
Hopeful.

I don't necessarily feel selfish, but I am less likely to complain about my lot in life than I may have been in the past. Seriously, what do I have to complain about?
