It's been a second.
Coachella was an experience. Besides the terrible heat, it was a great show. I am sure everyone has talked about it so I will just list my top 6 performances.
1) The Pixies
2) Radiohead
3) Broken Social Scene
4) Air
5) Mogwai
6) Sage Francis
The Pixies were fucking incredible and with Radiohead to follow, those two performances alone made the $140 I spent on the concert worth it. Broken Social Scene was a huge surprise. I have been listening to their music for a couple years now and never had the chance to see them live, and they are a great live band. No disappointment with Air. Now I am not the biggest fan of hip hop anymore and the fact that I have known about Sage Francis for at least 5 years and have seen him countless times made his performance the biggest surprise of Coachella for me. I must say the highlight for me was when he took Massive Attack's Teardrop, rymed over the beat. and then would let the chorus drop and drop hard. It was amazing. Oh, and if anyone is wondering why The Cure didn't make it, well I love The Cure, but for some reason was a little disappointed with the performance, I felt it wasn't loud enough and not a lot of people were into it. It also could have been the fact that it was the last performance of two very long days in 100+degree weather, but then again, I did see Mogwai right before them and you saw where they were on my list. I will say I am very excited for the new Cure album to drop, I thought it was a mistake, but have heard a few tracks and they are all really good.
Enough with Coachella.
New Cd's to check out.
Mum - Summer Make Good
So far I have been a huge fan of every piece of music this Icelandic group has put together and with their new lp, I have not been dissapointed. Although I feel it's a little more rock incorporated, which is good, it still stays true to their beautiful, soft, melodic music that leaves you standing still in awe, rather than moving your heads at a show. Speaking of a show. Mum will be in concert with Why? (anticon), who is one of my favorite musicians right now.
Mum and Why?
Thursday July, 8 @ The El Rey
Mirah - C'mon Miracle
Mirah is a singer/songwriter from Olympia, Washington and is affiliated with the Microphones. Her last album which was a joint project was call Songs From A Black Mountain Project and was truely great. Her new solo album is not the best work she has done, but compared to her other two solo albums, Its up there. It is definatley beautiful, and worth checking out. If you don't know who she is, this might be a good place to start.
Loretta Lynn - Van Lear Rose
Blender gave it 5 stars, I would have to give it 3. Never been a Loretta Lynn fan, and still wouldn't call myself one. Heard the song Portland Oregan w/ Jack White and fucking loved it. On the rest of the album I can maybe pick 3 or 4 other songs I like, not love, the rest is just a little too country for my liking. I do have to say Jack White did an amazing job producing the album and I think that is why it is really getting so much praise. If you have not heard Portland Oregan, download it or something, it's a great song.
Shows
Well, besides Coachella, the only concert I have been to was Hymies Basement this past weekened @ the echo. Hymies Basement is Why? (anticon) and Andrew Broder (Fog). It was beautiful, very acoustic, and funny.
Life for me is ok. This past weekened I took some records from my aunts house that I am pretty psyched about.
Beatles - Revolver
Beatles - Abby Road, warped
Beatles - Meet the Beatles
Rolling Stones - Aftermath
The Doors - Strange Days
Miles Davis - Kind of Blue (mint)
The Dead - Workingmans Dead
I also got a black eye playing basketball, and yeaturday at work was the most annoying. All I heard was who kicked your ass, even customers were annoying. An old lady came up and asked me who punched my lights out, and when I told her I got poked in the eye playing ball, she laughed at me and said, "thats a believeable story". Anyway, life is pretty good right now, I just want to find a girl I am crazy about again, I miss love. Anyone available wanting the same?
peace till next time

No, I am not orginally from Japan. I am from the hot, dry desert of the SWUS. I am in Japan working...and playing.
