I've always wondered what makes some people become blown away by someone's beauty and others not. Beauty is not universal. It's a consensus. Statistical averages that suggest a direction. Facial symmetry has something to do with it , as well as, the ratios of the various facial features. (Leaving body types out completely for now.)
For me it's brunette hair. Dark skin has also caused me some rubber necking. Why? I don't know exactly, but I expect everyone has a charateristic or two about a prospective mate that is head and shoulders above others.
I read this article that suggested as an in-built anti-incest mechanism that children raised together, even though not biological siblings, (studies done on kibitz children) will not be attracted to one another and that they rarely marry.
A sexual awakening window must open in everyone's life at a predefined time where people seen (of the person's inert sexual preference) via TV/film/neighbor defines these fetish charaters. But there is an exposure limit (kibitz study). Since each environment and cultural catalog is unique (as a combination of factors) it defines why some people desire dark hair, knit caps, buddy holly glasses, etc., i.e., the differences. My own personal influence was Nova from the Planet of the Apes. She is the paradigm I'm certain that has guided most of my dating desires. She's too old for me now, but Nova frozen in time and in syndication blew/blows me away. And who can resist a woman in fur (faux or otherwise).
