Another day of being snowed in. I just called work and my boss is understanding. At least I get Christmas Eve off. I also was able to get my timecard approved yesterday so I am getting paid this Friday, yay!
It's been a nightmare of a week. I did go to work yesterday, but commuting was a pain. Most buses to downtown weren't stopping for us, and when I did catch a bus, his back door got stuck in the snow, so we had to wait about 10 minutes for someone to fix it (nobody was able to dig it out). When I arrived downtown, there was no connecting buses running near my work so I had to walk half a mile to get there.
The commute back was even worse. Most of the buses were again packed. A heavy crowd you'd see at a Thanksgiving Day parade at 3rd Ave. I eventually got on a bus (it wasn't even a direct bus home, but it was close enough), the drive was horrible. It would stop at bus stop, two people would squeeze out, and 10 people would try to squeeze in. People would yell "There's not enough space!". 3 minutes will pass before the people trying to squeeze in gets the idea. Repeat this about 15-20 times in the middle of rush hour traffic (which is crawling due to the slushy roads), and well...it sucks. When I did get home it was another half a mile walk from the top of an icy hill with sidewalks that are essentially compacted ice.
Anyways, at least I am getting paid and I will have enough to cover bills. I got myself a few gifts of old lost Playstation 1 games to complete my library (gaming can be a serious hobby). This completes my collection ranging from the NES to XBox 360. The only major system I don't have covered is the PS3 and I have no intentions on getting one any time soon. The PS3 exclusives simply aren't worth the $400 (I can't forget the school expenses next fall!), and the one game I did want, Final Fantasy XIII, is being ported to the 360.
It still amazes me how far we've gotten in gaming. I started getting serious around the PS1 era...which is when I got my first part-time job. The first game I purchased was Final Fantasy 7, and when I was a kid I thought the graphics were ahead of its time, take a look at the game back then:
Now here's the heroine in Final Fantasy 13:
Keep in mind these are CGI renders, but the difference is staggering. Gaming has gone from the 8-bit pre-painted scenes to something nearly equivalent to an interactive Pixar film. It's quite stunning.
