After talking with my student adviser today, I started to think; why do I have to choose only ONE thing to do with my life? Is it such a crime to be interested in more than the coursework you have outlined for me? I told her I was taking a Human Sexuality class next semester and she looked at me as if I had just told her I wanted to sell my kidney on the black market. Apparently, because it has nothing to do with my Marketing major, it's a "waste of time" to take the class. Since when!? I don't think a quest for knowledge on ANY subject is ever a waste of time. I find it completely ridiculous that my "adviser" doesn't get the concept of taking a class simply to better understand a topic you're interested in. I also think it's hilarious that I've been "advised" to focus on only one major, rather than doing this my way. I plan on getting at least 3 different degrees, maybe more. So...why should I not do that? Is it really her place to tell me it's a bad idea to get more than one degree? I'm so irritated. I've decided to plan my own courses from now on. I will never again step foot in that room with her, and I will never again seek her brilliant "advise"
What a waste of tax dollars...
