I've just about finished my month off from work. Wasn't exciting for the most part since I spent the majority of the time video gaming. I did manage to get some of the more important stuff done like get a pretty good plan written for my European trip later this year. Now I just have to book everything which looks daunting and still requires me to look up more information regarding travel times between places depending on mode of transport. probably the real reason people get drivers licenses ASAP so they can drive around countries instead.
The last couple of days have just been spent having a bit of fun although no doubt I'll continue the trend; after all I'm not that old yet to be out having a good time and frankly I like putting people off with my presence if they happen to be shallow.
So I decided I would go out the night before Australia day and also my Cousins birthday to this Tiki bar called The Cliff Dive. Its an alright place with nice decor and reasonably priced drinks (? - well i add this because it might just be the ice making the drink appear larger then it really is and it is the same with all the other cocktails and mixers although the beer they do have is over priced even if I suppose it is also rather exotic and the one I had isn't particularly special and only had it because of the name). The dance floor is also pretty small and while I can't quote a regular nights music (this night was specifically for RnB from 2000 - 2005) although they did a shit job of it even then with quite a bit of repeat of JLo and missed a couple of decent RiRi tracks. I'd probably go again with friends but maybe not if it is just me especially since the prices were higher then numerous reviews that were only a couple months old suggested and there was no kebabs which apparently they do or at least did do.
So we went out to the harbour for Australia day/cousin's B'day. My aunt's made this cake themselves. It was pretty tasty. My cousin promptly smeared it into all the rugs and my aunt's coffee.
One thing was odd about the Australia day celebrations on the harbour and that is this: There was a distinct Communist theme (even though people aren't worried about the reds under the bed anymore but I do tend to ham things up a bit too much sometimes).
The Red Berets (unfortunately I couldn't actually see them except the whispy smoke top centre and when I could see them well i was busy eating cake)
QANTAS fly over (well their symbol does have a lot of red in it)
Russian Roulettes
All communist themed. Actually one of the other odd things was when another group of jets did their fly by earlier (I believe they were the air force and they did their fly by earlier in the day) I know I took a photo despite my brother trying to bump me so i miss the shot. anyway none of the pictures are there leading me to believe they flew so fast that they traveled back in time and erased my pictures.
There are a few ship related things as well including the ferry race at the start of the days festivities (at 11am - I was late because my flat mate let his dad into our place and then took off to the gym so I couldn't go until he came back and hour later). So I missed most of that. I also didn't take pictures of the Boat ballet which was interesting especially when the tug boats were nose to nose so to speak. What you see above is the tall ships. apparently they have some dressage every year and judges choose which one is done up best although they seem to do that much later. I only know that because it was about 3.30pm when they were announcing the winner near Circular Quay even though the boats went by at about 1pm
Apparently this is an aircraft carrier. I know its small but apparently the curved bit at the front which you can't see in this picture makes it an aircraft carrier. I suggested it could be used to do skateboard or BMX tricks or even jump over to another aircraft carrier on a motorcycle. It would be sick.
So I suggested the reason for it being out of garden island was so it could launch an attack on the british and the subsequent arrival of the tall ships was the british response and that they would attack the opera house
Strictly speaking there was an interesting moment and maybe nothing actually happened but about 30 minutes after the Red Berets there was a search helicopter over the harbour as well as a dive team sent out. I haven't seen anything on the news but only 4 out of 5 people from the red berets did a boat by (or whatever a drive by on the water is) but since nothing has since appeared on the news (and SBS unusually spent almost the entire non sports section of its news broadcast today talking about Australia day although I did miss the start of the news so perhaps I will find out tomorrow) maybe it was just a mock up of them trying to find an escaped convict from one of those tall ships.
I also may have discovered the best method of learning ballet for anyone; Peg leg. Pirates would of been so good at ballet because they had a peg leg so they wouldn't need to ruin their feet to learn ballet since they already stand en point
Ok that's enough craziness from me for one evening. until next time take care
