So earlier this evening I went to Circus Oz. Unlike Absinthe, it was aimed more at children although no less entertaining to those who enjoy acrobatics and the like. Actually I found the troupe were quite impressive and unlike Absinthe which was actually performers from multiple shows from around the world, Oz circus is a single troupe and can therefore create a strong show.
The thing I was worried about was that I might not be able to take pictures. I've been to this theatre before for another acrobatics performance and about mid way through an usher told me I shouldn't be taking pictures (even though nothing indicated that I shouldn't be taking pictures up until the usher said so) but a quick scan to see if ushers were around and away I snapped even though I was in the second row so a performer may have decided to take offense. So below is a balancing act on a unicycle and in the next picture the same thing on a larger unicycle and yes he was riding it with her balanced on his shoulders
I'm not sure if you can tell but that's a box that has opened up and there is a girl sitting on top of it all balanced on this guy's head. At one point in the show and unfortunately I didn't get my phone out in time but a guy was standing on his head on top of another guys head.
So similar to what I showed in Circus 1 he is balancing on that chair with one hand. Yes you can see that rope but that was coming down for the next bit in the show. also those chairs are balanced on a series of odd objects including an Eiffel to replica and a skull or rather a replica of one.
Ok so one of the constant gags throughout most of the performance was that one of the girls was rather clueless and in this case at one point she climbs up to use the trapeze but drops her glasses and then winds up on the trapeze. Actually the whole trapeze act was a bit odd but considering the whole show was aimed at kids primarily (the theatre actually had a number of shows aimed at kids) and there was a large amount of comedy interspersed throughout the show it made a bit of sense.
Actually I kinda knew the person who was supposedly clumsy was actually pretty well co-ordinated. the lighting here makes it all kinda blurry particularly since the balls that were being juggled are silverish. It was kinda robotic some of the time the way they were juggled with feet and various other parts of the body. actually balls might be a bit inaccurate. more like hackey sacks or mini bean bags.
too be honest I'm pretty bad at telling what someone's weight is just by looking at them and don't really care too much. apparently the lady on the bottom is only 45 kilos and the guy standing on her (her shoulders eventually) his weight wasn't mentioned but i would say at least double that if not more.
So about centre left is this odd canon that shoots out large smoke rings. was pretty neat i thought. although from where i was sitting it was kinda hard to tell if they were jumping through them
Must be part bat or something :P. Actually it was pretty good and the rolling around the bar several times in a row.
The finally wasn't as big as I would of thought it would be. I thought there might be some swinging from pole to pole but it was mostly just climbing and posing off of it.
Still over all it was a great show and a bit of audience participation including at one point a woman being asked to help be a back up dancer on stage and then her top popping open although at that point kids were starting to stream on stage which provided a handy distraction.
