Australian Politics
Ok so a rather dull subject particularly since most people here aren't from Australia. However it really annoys me that these days federal politics is a joke. We are on the verge of having yet another Prime Minister axed mid-term because people even in parliament think that a couple of bad polls means its time to find someone else to run the country even though one of the points of them coming into power was they wouldn't do that like the Labor party did and then did a second time to go back to who they previously had as PM.
The problem with most democracies including our own is that they are adversarial and you really only have a choice between one of two parties and in the case of Australia they are both pretty much the same thing with slightly different words; well that's how I see it. Then you have all the loony toon minor parties which are either highly discriminating to anyone who isn't white, highly specific like motor enthusiasts or shooters party or just plain bat shit insane like the greens (who unfortunately are the only real contenders in the two party race but are also the most likely to bring our country to ruin)
In recent events in state politics the liberals are being ousted by labor despite the fact labor hasn't really offered anything in terms of policies except a batch of lies involving liberals selling everything off and higher prices all round. Incorrect on both counts in the case of Sydney with labor making out the liberals are selling off our electricity when in fact they are leasing 49% of it. The other annoying thing is that unlike most democracies, its compulsory to vote in Australia.
The funny thing is I wouldn't mind getting into politics just to fix things up and get rid of all the clowns who are there just to pocket big fat pay cheques especially when they spend most of the time not actually sitting in parliament but doing whatever gets them off outside of their job. They get paid a shit ton of money as is plus they get loads of perks for them and their family all paid for by the tax payer plus they get pensions that in some cases are six figures; and all for doing very little for the people. The quickest way to get us back in the black is to slash government perks and whilst they are at it take an axe to government employees earning pay cheques almost as grandiose as their own and for just as little work. Unfortunately forced retirements aren't the answer since up until recently all government employees got a much cosier 14.3% minimum contribution to their super in addition to their pay where as everyone else only got 9% (although its now 9.5% for everyone except those under the old rules)
In all honesty, politicians are mostly useless who care more about money then who they serve hence why these days you are more likely to spend a long time in jail for monetary crimes then for murder or assault. Then there is always some policy or policies which end up getting axed as soon as another party is voted in and while more often or not they aren't likeable policies anyway, there are some that get axed that should not be.
For me the fun is at the end of March for state elections and deciding which clowns should be voted in whether that be the unlikeable or those who haven't got a plan except shoot down all the other plans and watch the economy burn. At least they aren't killing each other; well not yet anyway.
