If it's one thing I'm good at it's ranting and there are a lot of things that make my blood boil for one reason or another. The topic is above you can read the link or just read my rant.
So this particular rant starts on a Sunday afternoon as I am reading the Sunday paper. Normally I generally only read the more important headlines as well as World events and the Business sections (and comics). So the story basically goes that a mother of a daughter of an undisclosed age (which for this article raised a few red flags in my books) was quite annoyed at the supposed fact that there were too many stereotypical books about princesses and fairies for girls and that boys had more variety for books.
Firstly the fact she in turn was assigning books to one gender or another even though anyone can read any book they wish regardless of whom they might appeal to. This article is basically free profiteering under the guise of some call for equality in the children's book department.
In fact I'll go so far as to quote her stupidity firstly with this line;
"I wanted to show her there was more than one way to be a girl"
The very next paragraph then basically contradicts this statement by saying that as a journalist, she found princess merchandise had taken over everything else for girls and that they didn't have the same diversity of choices as boys.
Again clearly not understanding that there is no such thing as a boy book or a girl book and that she should be buying some of these "boy books" if she wants to raise her little girl on something other than princesses and fairies or perhaps just look harder. I mean the mr men and little miss/mrs books for starters have plenty to say that has nothing to do with princesses and have a fair few morals to dish out or perhaps some of the non disney classics like Where the wild things are.
Well that's all from me for now. If it's one thing I can't stand it's human stupidity, and I don't mean the kind you can find on Funniest home videos. I'll have plenty more for you or if nothing else for me to vent
