Cabaret Voltaire happened tonight. as far as exhibiting the book went, it was fairly par for the course, but the book itself is designed more for one-on-one experiences and not for a huge throng of people. Still, it was good to show it in an "official" setting and always good to bring more people into my world. i always have a hard as hell time explaining my stuff to people, but after they do it once, then it becomes a whole lot easier.
still, as everyone says, it's about time i made something for a mass audience and after i make my bedtime story, i'll make that and the gift, hopefully in tandem. of course, i am going to have to wean myself off a very expensive fabric addiction. more and more, i'm starting to become interested in things that the hollywood studios create for their sf/horror films that can be applied to fashion: squibs that spew blue or uv-reflective blood, this new thing i just heard about today called mechanile, which basically is a skin covering, sort of like scales, that they're using for a new vin diesel film called the chronicles of riddick. Integrating that with cyberpunk and Arthurinian legend/medieval weaponry has been this weird sort of thing gnawing at the back of my mind, begging with me to play with it. but the books are more important. i'm just being distracted by my vanity.
so it also made me realize that i need to think about getting my own stuff done this weekend. i will be crawling out of here for the la decom and taking photos and suchlike. i in particular am looking forward to halloween which i will spend, i have decided, with the mutaytor in las vegas. indeed, i shall get down in true fear-and-loathing fashion with all the reptilian adrenaline-junkies of the middle America and the misplaced freaks who are paid to distract them from the crap tables for a few seconds. if schwartzenegger is indeed our new fuhrer, then i might as well enjoy my freedom while i still have it.
lastly, am enjoying "fast food nation" by eric schlosser, one of the few u.s. journalists that i admire greatly. this book is definitely helping me along on my quest to treat my body better, to remind me that eating fast food is not only unhealthy, but very destructive to our society and environment. so far, i have already all but elimated soft drinks and salted snacks from my diet. now only if i can do something about candy...
