It's hard to understate the amount of danger the current American administration puts the entire world in. Whether you loved us or hated us ("us" being the U.S.A.), our omnipresence across the globe, made it a safer place, overall. Our foreign policy may not have always been popular, abroad ๐๐ at home, but it was always shaped, at least in a general way, by standing for the tenants of Freedom and Justice. Yesterday, for the first time in 248 years, we openly sided with "the bully". And calling Putin a bully, is the oversimplification of the century. Bullies steal your lunch money, call you names, or push you into lockers. What we actually did was side with an evil, megalomaniacal, murderous war criminal. And it was a clear signal to our allies, no matter how old or strong that alliance might be, that they cannot count on us. And without the deterrent of the U.S. and it's military power, it's also a signal to all the Putins of the world, that they can push their power hungry agendas, with little to no fear of consequences from the U.S.
I don't know if we're there yet, but it feels like putting a stop to this through traditional methods, i.e. contacting representatives or protesting, is quickly slipping through our fingers. I know people come to this site as an escape or release from the stresses of the "real world," and I don't want to ruin someone's day, but I can't ๐๐๐ say ๐บ๐ถ๐ด๐ฌ๐ป๐ฏ๐ฐ๐ต๐ฎ. Even if it's just to selfishly ease my own conscience. It's hard not to feel like we let ourselves as Americans, and the entire world, down.
