I don't usually get super political in my posts, and doubt many (if any) of you reading this are from Ohio. But this is important. Ohio, like many other Republican-led states, has basically banned all abortions. There is a resolution on November's ballot that will overturn this ban, which is surprisingly and thankfully getting overwhelming support from both parties. This is not Issue 1. Issue 1 is the single issue on the August ballot, and if it passes, will effectively take the decision out of the voters' hands. Democracy is simple: majority wins. If Issue 1 passes, it rewrites the rules. In today's political climate, it would be hard (if not impossible), to get 60% of people to agree that the sky is blue. If Issue 1 passes, any future amendments to Ohio's constitution would require over 60% of the vote to pass, or a "super-majority". They know what they're doing, too. August elections historically don't get a big turnout, as someone who has voted in every election since I was old enough, I wasn't even aware they were a thing until this year 😬. They're trying to sneak it through. If you're from Ohio, make sure you vote "no," on Issue 1, on or before August 8th. A vote against Issue 1, is a vote 𝘧𝘰𝘳 basic human rights for women, and autonomy over their own bodies. I've been let down again and again by Ohio in recent years. I hope we can step up and do what's right, this time.
