If you want true examples of personal courage, stop reading this now, and head over to @elune or @truetrue316's pages, and read their blogs.
Loyalty- To bear true faith and allegiance
Duty- Fulfill your obligations
Respect- Treat people as they should be treated
Selfless Service- Put the welfare of others before your own
Honor- Live up to the Army Values
Integrity- Do what is right, legally and morally. Do and say nothing that deceives others
Personal Courage- Face fear, danger or adversity
These are the Army's Core Values (I know, I know, I promise it's not another Army blog from Mike). I have tried to live up to these values since I was 17. I fail more often than I'd like at more of them than I care to admit. They have been both a blessing and a curse, giving me the strength to get up and keep moving, when I'd rather just give up on everything and everyone around me. They have also kept me suffering in silence through a long and ongoing shitty family situation (sorry @truetrue316, that's all you get from me for now, thus failing Personal Courage yet again). They aren't some magical revelation that no-one outside the military knows about, in fact, they are the very basic building blocks to being a decent human being. But you can't argue with how Uncle Sam arranged them all cool, to kinda spell out "Leadership" (so dummies like me can remember them easier). Anyway, no-one asked, but it's just another small insight into a large part of who I am (or at least try to be).
