So I decided to do blog homework! And the 1-st topic I have chosen is "Share an animal story". It will be in 2 parts, cause I have 2 dogs from shelter.
This is the 1-st one. Her name is Bela. I adopted her when I was 19 (almost 9 years ago). And on this photo I am 20)
Bela comes from a huge animal shelter in the village near Moscow, Russia. The situation with homeless animals in Russia is terrible. There is not enough place for them in shelter. Too many animals, especially dogs, are thrown away, treated badly, held in very bad conditions. They rarely have chips. Not all the mix-breed animals are sterilized. Not all of them are even vaccinated.
I took Bela from a private (non-goverenmental) shelter. She was not a pup, but a young lady (about one year old). She was sterilized and vaccinated. And still the conditions in this shelter were not perfect - there were simply too many animals and they constantly fought for food and human attention. Together with her I took her sibling, Ellie, cause my mom liked her a lot. So we adopted 2 dogs from shelter at once.
They had huge problems with behaviour. As soon as they got home, they started overprotecting it and showing agression to strangers. We went to dog handler. It got better, but both Bela and Ellie are still wary of strangers. It takes time to befriend them. But they are super-affectionate of thir owners (me, my mom, my husband) and people who come by often (my close friends).
As I emigrated to Berlin, I took Bela with me. Ellie stayed with my mom in Moscow. They both are about to be 10 years old this year. They are in good health and live nice lives, especially Bela, an orphan dog-immigrant, who has a european passport now!
2 yers ago me and my husband decided, that Bela needs company and we adopted another shelter dog here in Germany. But it is another story and I'll tell it in the next post!
