first day of skool... oh my fucking god... AMAZING.
so, i finally stepped down off my pedastol and into a seat of an art history class. i came to realize at one point that as an artist, studying art history is like tracing my familiar lineage. perhaps there's an old family member who i can look up to and learn something from.
sitting in the classroom, i came to realize that if i'm actively analytical throughout the class period, i remain engaged and interested. furthermore, i have a new sort of appreciation for the simple things that i would've ranted endlessly about before - there's always some deeper meaning to dig for, whether its a part of the art itself or just its creative context.
later on in the day, i walked into a studio classroom full of beautiful young women. i stepped back and shook my head in shock a couple times asking myself - and unintentionally, the ladies around me - if i'd really stumbled into an all girl class. well, with the exception of one exceptionally lucky young man and the teacher, yes, i had.
the teacher's really fucking cool which i didn't fully understand until the end of class. we were told to draw this still life the best we could so that he could make an initial evaluation of our work. well, it was a fucking pain in the ass - i've never liked drawing draped fabric; but i ended up staying later than everyone else - being the perfectionist i am, not wanting him to see me do anything short of my best - and actually liking what i created... my fabric looked like the essence of a scorpio - turbulent water.
he called me 'the lone serious student' at which i kinda laughed... he and i spoke for a bit. he asked me if i'd had any questions about the final. i told him that i had so many that i didn't know where to begin. after confirming with me that i am a film/fine arts student - and asserting that it's a 'hot combination' - he suggested that i make a film.
"WHAT?!?!?! you want me to make a film... for a drawing class!?!@#$!@" i must've asked him about 50 times in like 18 different ways. he said yes.
i was amazed.
i'm still amazed.
on top of all that, i'm going to be in one of my favorite teacher's 2D fundamentals class - a class that i don't particularly want to take (i've dropped out of it twice) but since i must take it, i figured i might as well take advantage of the fact that terence is teaching it this semester.
i've been truly blessed this semester. i should only hope that my other 3 classes go this well.
