Been a pretty good week.
Been interviewing all week for a new job with a new IT contract company with the military. They seem impressed by me, but it's doing something I've never really done before. So I'm doing a lot of studying and learning of things in order to prove to them that I'm worth hiring.
Next week I'll have my last interview where they'll put all my studying to a test and then we'll see whether they want me or not.
I definitely hope they do, because this'll be at minimum a 12K/yr raise and at most a 27K/yr raise.
I definitely could use the extra money with all these student loans and what not. Plus if I ever really want to do things like buy a new car (had mine since High School) or eventually own a home I'm going to need to make enough to start saving.
Also met a lot of cool people through SG since I joined over the last week or so. Been talking to a few people online and even lucky enough to find someone from the area here too.
I realize, though, as I meet new people the inherent issue with me meeting new people. I, as a rather large male, have never had to be afraid of people. This means that once I've determined that I don't dislike someone I will pretty much act like I've known them forever. I'm sure that can be somewhat off putting... or at least make me seem too forward? Not sure exactly the terminology I'm looking for.
Oh well... Some people will dismiss me, others won't. I am who I am, though, and pretty sure my weirdness will not change.
In other news the band is now in a competition with Nuclear Blast records for a record contract. Basically we have to submit a band bio (well us and hundreds of other bands) and they pick someone to get a contract. At least that's how Dick described it to me.
I think we have as good a shot if not better than many bands. I mean we've been trying to do this since high school. We've put a lot of heart and money into it. We've grown both as people and as musicians. Developed our own unique sound. We grew up together. We've cheated death together. And after a very short time of actually playing out we've had some pretty quick and great success.
I mean in only a few months we've won a Battle of the Bands against many established local acts. And gone on to play with bands like:
Dying Fetus
Origin
Halo of Locusts
Soylent Green
Death Angel
God Forbid
How many other bands can say that?
But still... it's really just a lottery. But with luck there may be some talk with Nuclear Blast in our future. I'll post what bio we right up for the competition here, for those interested.
