❤ hi lovelys ❤
today's blog is about the psychedelic scene in Brazil !! enjoy and bon voyage!
It is not today that Brazil is strongly influenced by North American culture, it is possible to say that this influence began in the 1960s, with the arrival of Rock and Soul in American lands, and later in the Brazilian lands. Psychedelic Rock is a subgenre of rock that developed in the mid-1960s and that influenced psychedelia between bands in the United States and England. They used to use new studio techniques and bring characteristics of Indian music, such as pedals and raga.
meet 10 records or names that influenced the Brazilian scene, and my favorite songs !!
In Brazil, in 1967, from a troubled socio-political scenario caused by the military coup, a movement was born whose musical bias was composed by names such as Tom Zé, Gal Costa, Nara Leão, Os Mutantes, Torquato Neto, Rogério Duarte, Capinan, Júlio Medaglia and Rogério Duprat. It was “Tropicália”, which, according to Gilberto Gil, had in Caetano Veloso the creative force that resulted in the very existence of cultural agitation; and whose ideas were exposed in a more radical way, according to him, by artists like Hermeto Pascoal and, later, Chico Science.
The sound is a kind of bossa nova performed by psychedelic rockers, with baroque vocal harmonies mixed with metal arrangements. The result is impressive.
Tropicália (1968), Alegria, Alegria, Lost in paradise, You Don't Know Me ...
Every mundane who likes good music knows Os Mutantes were one of or the most original of Brazilian rock bands. Formed by Rita Lee, Arnaldo Baptista and Sérgio Dias, it mixed an anarchic and psychedelic sound, with classical music, samba and distortions on the guitar. 1968 was the starting point for political, ethical, sexual and behavioral changes. It was the milestone of feminist, ecological movements, NGOs, defenders of minorities. There was also a rejection of the media manipulation of public opinion. It was also the year of the release of the first Mutantes LP. A mind-blowing year, spinning like a kaleidoscope. Along with the LP of the Brazilian band, the world received the "White Album" by the Beatles, with Dear Prudence and Helter Skelter.
In 2006, they were honored at Tropicália - A Rrevolution in Brazilian Culture, in London.
2001, El Justiceiro, It's Very Nice Pra Xuxu, Trem Fantasma, Rogério Duprat(Mutantes) - Canção Pra Inglês Ver...
Success in the 1970s with its mix of MPB, jazz and progressive rock,
Launched in 1970, “Som Imaginário” brings strong influences from experimentalism, psychedelia and tropicalism, as well as inspiration in the final stage of the Beatles.
delivering an authentic work that showed that Brazilian psychedelic rock was not just an imitation of what came from the United States and England. The album also stood out for its authenticity and creativity, through the unconventional use of Asian and handmade instruments, in addition to incredible improvisations.
check out some really cool songs that I chose to show you:
Morse , Make Believe Waltz , Pantera (1970) , Nepal ...
Lysergic, with an experimental sound, where the vocal of Gal and the guitar of Lanny Gordin create an explosive mixture in several moments, in one of the most intense records of the tropicália.
When talking about the great female voices of Brazilian music (and there are so many), it is impossible not to mention her: Maria da Graça Costa Penna Burgos, nicknamed “Gal” by the music producer and a key figure in the Tropicalist movement, Guilherme Araújo, is recognized the main female figure who participated in the movement. In addition, Gal Costa consecrated his name in the history of MPB and will always be remembered as the owner of one of the best timbres of our music. His voice was capable of sounding sweet and soft singing the simplest of sambas, while he could pour all the energy of rock'n'roll from the late 60s into the songs of the most experimental phase of his career.
Influenced by names like Jimi Hendrix, Beatles and, especially, Janis Joplin, Gal shows the world all his versatility and vocal power in an impressive work in which he sings, amid striking solos and guitar chords
The Empty Boat, Objeto Sim, Objeto Nao, Cultura E Civilizacao, Nao Identificado.
Another great example of Northeastern psychodelia, mixing experimentalism and regional elements, Highlight for the beautiful “Desespero” and “Brilhante estrela”.
Flaviola e o Bando do Sol - Flaviola e o Bando do Sol - 1974 (Álbum Completo) Full Album
he recorded only one album, released by the local label Solar, in 1974. Based on regional rhythms, they mixed folk-rock with psychedelia, with rich Instrumental, based on guitars, violas, guitars, flutes and percussion. the disc brought together the cream of musicians who consolidated the harsh seventies psychedelic: they participate in the album Flávio Lira (the Flaviola), Lula Côrtes, Paulo Raphael (guitar of the legendary Ave Sangria and who has been accompanying Alceu Valença since the 1970s), the magician Robertinho from Recife and Zé da Flauta.
highlighted in music "Antropológica N° 1 & 2" the ''Brasilidade '' is clear
Psychedelia, ramblings, dazzled rock, pluricellular animals: all within a vastness pale as the northeastern drought. The dictionary says that ‘metazoans’ are a set of differentiated multicellular animals, whether vertebrates or invertebrates.
A panoramic view of the dryness of the caatinga already exudes tiredness. That pale yellow adorned by solitary branches and thorny mandacarus forms the right setting for an almost daily clash: god versus devil. Reality enters with the guitar and zither chords: here come the noises of animals like vultures in an open sound that delivers the vastness of the scene.
Zé Ramalho is one of the protagonists of this process. The beginning of his career is clearly linked to rock and since then he seeks to establish dialogue and fusion with northeastern rhythms and forms, such as embolada, baião, suddenly and using timbres and regional instruments such as fiddle, accordion and viola. His first two albums, Paêbiru (recorded with Lula Côrtes in 1974) and Zé Ramalho (1978), clearly reveal this fusion between northeastern music and rock.
highlighted the songs: Chão de Giz, Avôhai, Jardim das Acácias, Admirável Gado Novo...
