hello SGland! today's blog is about a goddess of music... Edith Piaf
legend has it that she was born on the sidewalk of Rue de Belleville 72, but her birth certificate mentions the Tenon Hospital, which is part of Belleville. She was named Édith in honor of a British World War I nurse who was executed for helping French soldiers escape the Germans. Piaf, a French colloquial name for a type of sparrow, was a nickname given to her twenty years later.
His singing clearly expressed his tragic life story. Among his greatest hits are "La Vie en Rose" (1946), "Hymne à l'amour" (1949), "Milord" (1959), "Non, je ne Regrette Rien" (1960). He participated in plays and films. In June 2007 a biographical film was released about her, ''La Môme'' ''La vie en Rose".
The film deals with The Life of Edith Piaf, from childhood to the end, with fame, money, problems with alcohol, intense love and an unmistakable voice.
The biography is treated chronologically in reverse: it begins with the “end”, in which Piaf appears ill and at the end of her career, and there is an eternal “back and forth” between moments that portray the singer's sad past and the growing history of her rise in the world of music. We see a little Edith, who suffers from the situation of separated parents, a mother who abandons her, a father who lets her spend her childhood in a brothel and who uses her to earn money by begging (whew, so much) until she grows up and we realize his natural talent and his search for a (slightly) happier and more independent life.
edith is like the representation of paris, listening to her music makes us happy and sad, in love, a nostalgic feeling, it is as if she had lived there. is different...
I know it's not a fable, but the moral of the story is actually a piece of advice that Edith herself left in an interview published in Music-Hall in February 1960, made at the end of her life:
- Si vous deviez donner un conseil à une femme, que serait-il?
– Aimez!
-A une jeune fille?
– Aimez!
-A une enfant?
– Aimez!
