A partir do século XVI que o ano novo passou a ser comemorado no final de dezembro (decimo mes), as culturas antigas comemoravam no solsticio de verão (hemisfério norte), e em dezembro tinha uma festa pagã que a igreja católica colocou como nascimento de Jesus e dia 31 seria o dia da circuncisão e apagaram as culturas antigas.
