First of all R.I.P. to Russell Old Dirty Bastard Jones. I hope you and James are sharing a blunt in Heaven.
Now...
Remember when I took that week of from SG? Well, heres what I did with my time:
A good percent of you know that Im pushing a demo right now but a smaller percent of you know that Ive finished a manuscript for a novel. (Ill talk more about the novel at another time unless you ask me about it,) Ive been sending out CDs and query letters like a mad man. This is extremely hard to do when I already work about 50 hours a week (about 65 now that the holidays are upon us.) and when i get home all I want to do is sleep or talk to you. (I do more of the latter by the way.) In essence, I have a third job and I had been neglecting it because I was having too much fun with you guys.
(note: a query letter is a letter than summarizes your manuscript because no one is going to read 500 pages of drivel. Multiply that by 100 manuscripts a day and nothing ever gets done.)
This didnt happen this week but it pertains to this subject matter: I sent out a query letter about two months ago to Georgia Garret who happens to be Zadie Smiths literary agent and who also lives in London. i didnt really think she would actually agree to represent me or even answer me back. (Dont get excited for me because she didnt.) As time passed I had forgotten I sent it because Ive sent it to so many people ( I get about two rejection letters a day. Why do I put myself through this?) but never overseas so I actually when out of my way to try to talk to her. About 2 days a go I get a letter with no return address from W. S. Almannai who lives in Manama, Bahrain. (the Middle East. Me being American thought "nothing will happen to me." and luckily, it didn't.) It turns out that they sent my return letter to the wrong person and. Mr./s Almannai sent me my letter. How sweet. It also turns out that Georgia is on maternity leave and isnt looking for new clients at the moment. So, technically I didnt get rejected. A ray of hope.
I worked on some new music. I havent done that in moths. Im thinking about doing 3 or 4 new songs and just giving them away. Money is cool but love is better. I Thought about putting A life in the day of... to music but I never got around to it.
A man at work called me colored. I laughed in his face and said what year is this? Ive been called names before but colored? What is it about me and old white guys that makes them think they can say anything to me?
I saw the Roots on Halloween. They had on costumes: Black Thought (Lead vocals)- Curtis Mayfield, Brother ?uestlove (drums)- Barry White, Knuckles (percussion)- Rick James, Martin Luther (guitar, vocal)- Marvin Gaye, Hub (Bass)- Jam Master Jay, Kamal (keys) - Big Punisher, Capt. Kirk(guitar)- Jimi Hendrix. It was Ill. THE best sounding show Ive even been to. The levels were perfect, no distortion. it sounded like a CD only better. (I'm a recording engineer , what do you expect?) Oh, ?uestlove has my demo. :: shakes it:: (that's right Grayce, I stole your move.)
Speaking of her, one day I logged on to SG and saw Clearlii, Bunnygirl and gracye naked in the same day! That was truely a fucktastic evening.
I deleted about 5 people from my friends list and gained just as many. All this in a week I wasn't suppose to be here.
Caught up on my movie watching and magazine reading. I have netflix, which is pretty cool and I also subscribe to about 10 magazines. (former journalism major.) I think its ten magazines, Ive never actually sat down and counted.
Sadly, all this means I wont be updating as much as I used to. Its sad, because I have so many great ideas. Youll see...
P.S. Ive posted some new pictures. i have more. I just got tired. Didn't even put 'em in a different folder.
