I love Sunday mornings more consistently than I love any other event in my life right now. I yearn for Sunday morning drifting in and out listening to NPR - which is becoming my greatest source of cultural and intellectual stimulation lately.
Coin Locker Babies by Ryu Murakami is pleasing me greatly right now. First off, the story is original. Second, even though some of the charcters and events are cartoonish, it is writen in a style that is both plain and rich. One character, at least at this point in the novel, reminds me of the attitude of fight club. But Pahulniak (sp?) is unimagiative and less skilled by comparison (that is if you think he is skilled at all). I love this book.
A big mistake we all make from time to time is to hold others to our own expectation of the world. When they don't meet it, we get angry, annoyed, we hate them, etc. As if our view were the only one, as if it encompassed everything going on for another. Like they had nothing to teach us about themselves.. As if understanding were simple and immediate, Like the world were laid bare under the glancing of your eye. To remember to inquire is always hardt. To hold yourself up to serious inquiry is always the hardest. How does one escape one's own lies, delusions, and ignorance?
I think people create drama because they don't know how to or what to put their enery toward. The same often goes for relationships to some extent. If we stopped and thought about different ways to look at it.. but it would slow us down. It slowed me down. But I'm glad it did. Taking a look to see where others I knew were, I wouldn't want any of their lives. I wouldn't want the hopeless and senseless feeling in me to dominate until all that remained was the elusive and more often than not, effluvial pasted happiness. No, I still want satisfaction. That will be my only peace.
